Different View was asked by Cattewater Harbour Master to capture the arrival and unloading of a Princess yacht from the yacht transport vessel Deo Volente in Plymouth Sound.
The yacht was delivered by Starclass Yacht Transport, with imagery later gaining positive attention from both Starclass Yacht Transport and Hartman Seatrade, the company connected with the vessel.
The brief was simple but specialist: document the operation clearly, safely and visually, showing the scale of the vessel, the precision of the yacht transfer and the wider Plymouth Sound setting.
The approach
This was an active maritime operation, so planning and safety were central to the shoot. Before flying, Different View completed the necessary flight planning, permissions process and risk assessment to operate safely around the vessel, harbour environment and surrounding marine traffic.
Using the DJI Mavic 3 Pro, we captured both aerial video and drone photography, working at appropriate distances from the ship while still creating strong, dynamic angles.
The shoot involved:
- Maritime drone filming around an active vessel
- Aerial photography of the yacht delivery operation
- Safe flight planning and permission management
- Working around harbour activity and marine traffic
- Capturing the story of the yacht being lowered from ship to water
- Using light, timing and positioning to create the strongest possible colours and atmosphere
The result
The final images and video captured the scale, detail and atmosphere of the operation, from wide establishing shots of Deo Volente in Plymouth Sound to overhead views showing the yacht transfer process in full.
The content gave the operation a professional, cinematic record suitable for social media, PR, marketing, stakeholder updates and future promotional use.
For shipping companies, yacht transport operators, harbour authorities and marine logistics teams, this type of content does more than show what happened. It turns a complex operation into clear, high-impact visual material that can be used to promote expertise, capability and professionalism.
