Defence Video Production & Drone Filming for Complex Operations

Drone-led visual production for defence technology, autonomy and demanding operational environments

Based in Plymouth and operating UK-wide, Different View provides defence video production for organisations that need to communicate complex technology, engineering and operational capability clearly.

We combine drone filming, FPV, ground video, photography, editing and CGI to capture the scale, movement and detail of a project. From autonomous systems and technical demonstrations to controlled sites and live operations, every production is planned around the environment, the audience and what the finished content needs to achieve.

Video Production for Defence Technology & Complex Environments

Defence and technical projects often involve subjects that are difficult to communicate through conventional corporate video.

A new system may need to be seen operating in context. A trial may provide only a limited opportunity to capture the right moment. An engineering process that is familiar to the team developing it may be much harder to explain to customers, stakeholders or investors.

Our approach combines technical understanding with creative production, using the right mix of aerial and ground filming, FPV, photography, interviews and post-production to show what the technology is, how it operates and why it matters.

Filming Trials, Demonstrations & Live Operations

Filming a trial or live demonstration is different from working on a conventional controlled shoot. Equipment is moving, teams are working and the operation itself has to remain the priority.

Our work with MSubs, Marine AI and Zero USV includes documenting autonomous vessel testing, engineering activity and technical milestones. Different View has operated drones and FPV from RIBs, quaysides and controlled sites, including filming high-speed autonomous vessels and tests requiring careful coordination and safety awareness.

That experience translates naturally into defence technology and complex operational projects, where preparation, communication and the ability to adapt are as important as the camera itself.

Defence Drone Filming & FPV

Drone filming can establish the scale, location and movement of an operation in a way that is difficult to achieve from ground level alone.

For defence technology, engineering and specialist environments, aerial footage can show how a vehicle, system, facility or team operates within its wider environment.

Our FPV capability provides a more dynamic perspective for moving through and around spaces where a conventional stabilised drone may not achieve the required shot. We select the platform around the environment, the shot and the safety requirements rather than using a one-size-fits-all setup.

Where appropriate, aerial and FPV footage can be combined with cinema-grade ground cameras, photography, interviews and post-production to create a complete visual story.

Planning for Restricted & Sensitive Environments

Complex environments require careful planning.

Airspace, site access, operational activity, people, structures, weather and client requirements can all affect how a shoot is approached. We identify these considerations early so the creative plan is built around what can be delivered safely and practically.

Different View has previously delivered aerial video and timelapse production for a new Royal Navy refuelling platform in Plymouth. With the site positioned next to restricted airspace, the project required the team to follow Devonport’s process and secure the necessary UAS permissions before aerial filming took place.

Permissions and access are always assessed on a project-by-project basis, but this experience reflects our approach to specialist production: planning starts well before the aircraft leaves the ground.

CGI & Technical Visualisation

Sometimes the most important part of a system cannot be captured through a camera.

The technology may still be in development, internal systems may be hidden from view, or the audience may need to understand a process or future environment that cannot practically be filmed.

Our CGI and technical visualisation capability includes 3D rendering, product visualisation, motion graphics, visual effects and advanced water simulation.

For defence, autonomy and engineering projects, CGI can sit alongside live-action footage to reveal how a system works, explain a hidden process or place a product within an environment that does not yet exist. The aim is not to add visual effects for their own sake, but to make complex information easier to understand.

Defence Video Production Services

We can shape production around how the finished content needs to be used, including:

  • Capability films
  • Trials and testing footage
  • Technology demonstrations
  • Product and launch films
  • Exhibition content
  • Stakeholder and investor communications
  • Drone and FPV filming
  • Ground video and photography
  • CGI and technical visualisation
  • PR, social and campaign assets

A single production can also be planned around several different outputs, helping marketing and communications teams create a more useful bank of content rather than commissioning isolated pieces each time.

Experience Across Defence, Autonomy & Complex Operations

Our experience sits at the intersection of maritime operations, autonomy, engineering, broadcasting and specialist drone production.

Our ongoing work with MSubs, Marine AI and Zero USV includes photography and video for engineering and defence settings, autonomous vessel testing, technical visualisation and content for international exhibitions.

Our earlier work with IBM on the Mayflower Autonomous Ship involved two years of sea trials, aerial filming, ground production, interviews and collaborative planning around a highly technical autonomous-vessel programme.

Different View has also delivered aerial content for Royal Navy-related infrastructure in Plymouth and supports live broadcast and large-scale commercial productions. We are an approved aerial videography supplier to major broadcasters including the BBC and ITV.

Why Different View?

Different View is a drone-led visual production company built for projects where planning, technical understanding and creative judgement matter.

Our team brings together drone operation, FPV, filmmaking, photography, editing, motion graphics, CGI, 3D visualisation and specialist audio, allowing more of the production to work as one joined-up process.

Based in Plymouth and working across the UK, our focus is simple: plan carefully, capture what matters and turn difficult-to-explain capability into visual content that is clear, credible and commercially useful.

Discuss Your Project

If you need to capture a defence technology project, trial, demonstration, autonomous system or complex operational environment, tell us what needs to be shown, where the project is taking place and how the content will be used.

We’ll help establish the right combination of drone, FPV, ground filming, photography and visualisation for the brief.

FAQ

Can you film at defence, military or restricted sites?
Potentially. Access and drone operations depend on the specific location, airspace and permissions required. We assess this during pre-production and work with the client and relevant site teams to understand what can be filmed and what permissions are needed.

Can you combine drone, FPV and ground filming in one production?
Yes. Many projects benefit from combining wider aerial views with dynamic FPV footage and detailed ground-level filming. We select the mix according to what needs to be communicated.

Can you create content for autonomous or uncrewed systems?
Yes. Different View has experience documenting autonomous vessel technology, testing and technical milestones through work with MSubs, Marine AI, Zero USV and the Mayflower Autonomous Ship project.

Can CGI be used alongside real defence footage?
Yes. CGI, 3D visualisation and motion graphics can support live-action footage where a system, process or future scenario cannot easily be shown on camera.
